The members of the string quartet: Barnabás Kelemen, Jonian Ilias Kadesha – violin, Katalin Kokas – viola, Vashti Mimosa Hunter – cello

At their joint concert, Söndörgő, who specialize in South Slavic melodies and combine the archaic quality of traditional tunes with the energy of rock music, and the Kelemen Quartet, who are hailed in the international press as the most galvanizing string quartet of recent times, explore the heritage of Bartók.

On his 1912 collection trip to the Banat, Béla Bartók recorded numerous Romanian, Serbian and Bulgarian folk melodies. The programme of what promises to be a captivating night includes Söndörgő songs inspired by melodies Bartók collected in Temesmonostor and Sárafalva, original compositions of his such as String Quartet No. 5, and the tambura orchestra arrangements of popular works like Allegro barbaro. One of the highlights will be a taster of Söndörgő’s next album, Gyezz, to be released in the summer of 2024, and performed now, of course, with the Kelemen Quartet.

This concert of the Bartók Spring is presented by Müpa Budapest as a joint event with Liszt Academy.

Our offer

The overture to Berlioz's late opera Béatrice et Bénédict is an exciting and dynamic piece of music. Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto is one of the most popular works of the 19th century: virtuosic and intimate at the same time.

Artistic director and director-choreographer Balázs Vincze is very familiar with the tastes of dance aficionados partial to the traditions of bourgeois theatre and is superb at adapting familiar and popular literary classics to the dance stage. His wonderful sense of proportion enables audiences to follow plots in the language of dance. His contemporary choreographies built on classical foundations are unique, spectacular and of a high professional calibre without losing sight of the need to please the audience.

The conflict between the possibilities offered by modern military technology and the eternal fundamental ethical questions, drone strikes and the accompanying emotional and spiritual burdens: these are the themes at the centre of George Brant's 2012 drama Grounded.
