One of the great Hungarian baritones of the last decades of the 20th century and eternal member of the Opera, Kossuth Award-winning Sándor Sólyom-Nagy passed away shortly after turning 79. Because of the restrictions put in place due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the Opera and Sólyom-Nagy’s fans were unable to bid farewell to the artist internationally renowned for his intensive singing and roles: though he was a permanent member of Bayreuth’s exceptional team of artists, he always remained loyal to the Opera here in Budapest. In the unique atmosphere of Locomotive Hall at Eiffel Art Studios, the audience will be given a chance to remember the splendid singer and the attentive and helpful teacher of the Academy of Music on the eve of what would have been his 80th birthday. The program and the list of guest performers is being put together by the Opera with the assistance of Sólyom-Nagy’s beloved wife and pianist, Imola Pogány.

Artistic director and director-choreographer Balázs Vincze is very familiar with the tastes of dance aficionados partial to the traditions of bourgeois theatre and is superb at adapting familiar and popular literary classics to the dance stage. His wonderful sense of proportion enables audiences to follow plots in the language of dance. His contemporary choreographies built on classical foundations are unique, spectacular and of a high professional calibre without losing sight of the need to please the audience.
