Despite growing up surrounded by musical instruments, it took quite a long time for him to eventually settle on a career in music. Always powerfully drawn to the sacred, Omar Faruk Tekbilek is one of Turkey's most influential performers of world music, and at Müpa Budapest in April he will bring new life to the noblest musical traditions of the Middle East.

Behind the ‘pop music in a time machine' concept are arrangements of familiar contemporary pop hits and golden-oldies that are swinged-, jazzed- and doo-wopped-up before being planted in Motown-sounding soul. This simple but wonderful idea is one that works perfectly.

Program:
Mozart: Symphony No. 25 in G minor, K. 183
György Orbán: Symphony No. 2 - world premiere
Mahler: Symphony No. 4 in G major

One of the most celebrated organists of our time, Latvia's Iveta Apkalna trained in England and Germany after studying in her homeland, and today her playing captivates audiences all over the world. As far as Gábor Boldoczki is concerned, it is sufficient to say that he is one of the top trumpet players on the planet: a universal artist.

Dee Dee Bridgewater's career is now in its sixth decade, and while she says she's put in a lot of work to find herself, there's no doubt that the jazz world sees her as an institution.

A sokoldalú népdalénekes, Navratil Andrea meséből, zenéből és képzőművészetből sűrűre szőtt műsorában az évet járja körül: a nagy keresztény ünnepek a születés örömétől a feltámadás misztériumán át a Szentlélek eljöveteléig új perspektívából látszanak.

A rainbow of sounds from the orchestra, enigmatic dialogues and mysterious riddles. Not to mention a treacherous dwarf and a glorious young hero. Who after slaying a dragon and tasting its blood, is able to understand the prophetic singing of a bird. And then crosses through a wall of fire to discover both the woman who is his mate and, through his love for her, fear.

For her My Silks series, Palya invites female performers and singer-songwriters who are important and inspirational to her and introduces them to the Hungarian audience.

A truly exciting leading duo makes Puccini's bittersweet and atypical opera even more interesting in its New York performance.

The door to Moroccan trance music opens this May evening when one of the youngest female ambassadors of Gnawa culture, Asmâa Hamzaoui, and her own line-up, the Bnat Timbouktou trio, and the the Hungary-based band Tariqa, led by Central and Eastern European region's best-known Gnawa musician, the Moroccan-born Saïd Tichiti, give a joint concert.

In almost every biography of the group's career, you can read that Quincy Jones has called them the "the baddest vocal cats on the planet”. This opinion would probably be shared by Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald and Whitney Houston, all of whom worked alongside Take 6.

Három akusztikus gitár, a lelket azonnal megérintő, csodás portugál nyelvű dalok, és a lecsupaszított környezetben tündöklő énekhang. Hallunk még róla, hiba lenne lemaradni első budapesti fellépéséről.

Béla Bartók wrote some of his most wonderful and, in the traditional sense of the word, beautiful music in the final years of his life, when he was living as a voluntary émigré in the United States. Both at that time and after the composer's death, there were many who wondered whether Bartók was making artistic concessions in these compositions: had he been influenced by the tastes of the American audience?

Named after a Leo Tolstoy character, Platon Karataev have progressed as naturally as possible since forming in 2016 to become one of the most popular guitar bands in Hungary. Its members are guided much more by a series of strong intuitions than an excessive confidence in their own ability.

It is always a thrill to reflect on the fact that, even though the vast majority of Richard Wagner's oeuvre consists of his operas and music dramas, and the singers who perform in them on the world's top stages are exceptional artists, the most popular parts of these works, which can also be played independently, are the orchestral sequences.
